Lesson 8 – AutoFill, Flash Fill & Quick Analysis

Excel can complete patterns, extract text automatically, and analyze your data instantly. These tools save time and reduce manual work.

What you will learn

• AutoFill for patterns
• Flash Fill for automatic data extraction
• Quick Analysis for charts and formatting

1. AutoFill

Drag the fill handle (small square at cell corner) to continue patterns.

• Numbers 1, 2 → drag → 3, 4, 5
• Days: Monday → drag → Tuesday, Wednesday…
• Months: Jan → Feb → Mar…

2. Flash Fill

Flash Fill automatically detects patterns in your typing.

Example: Split full name into first name:

• A1 = "Rohan Sharma"
• B1 = "Rohan"
• Press Ctrl + E

Excel fills remaining rows automatically.

3. Quick Analysis

Select data → a small icon appears at the bottom right.

• Charts
• Totals
• Formatting
• Tables

Flash Fill works best when your examples are clear and consistent.

Practice Task

• AutoFill numbers 1 to 50
• Flash Fill first names from a list of full names
• Use Quick Analysis to create a quick chart

Homework

• Try Flash Fill on email IDs → extract usernames
