Lesson 10 – Freeze Panes & View Options

Freeze Panes helps you keep headers visible while scrolling. View options help you zoom, split, and adjust how you see your worksheet.

What you will learn

1. Freeze Top Row

Go to View → Freeze Panes → Freeze Top Row.

Your header row stays visible when you scroll down.

2. Freeze First Column

View → Freeze Panes → Freeze First Column

3. Freeze Both (Custom Freeze)

Select the cell where the unfrozen part begins.

Example:

  • Select B2
  • Freeze Panes → freezes Row 1 + Column A

4. Split Window

View → Split

Helps view different parts of a worksheet at once.

5. Zoom & View Options

  • Zoom slider (bottom right)
  • Page Layout View for printing view
  • Normal View (default)
Use Freeze Panes whenever working with large tables. It improves readability instantly.

Practice Task

  • Freeze top row of any dataset
  • Freeze first column
  • Split the window and scroll independently

Homework

  • Create a sheet with 200 rows → Freeze header and scroll
